My Experience with Winches


What is a winch? A winch is a hauling or lifting device consisting of a rope, cable, or chain around a horizontal rotating drum, turned by a crank or by motor or other power source, a windlass.

When going out into the great outdoors even if it is just a short trip down a paved road in your 4x4 2x4 6x6 8x8 or whatever vehicle it might be, there is no better insurance than having a Winch. There are many different winch makes and models. One of the brands that I have trusted the most for years has been Warn. I have a warn Winch on my Polaris 800 Sportsman four wheeler and on my Camo Jeep Cherokee! Not only do I have the Warn winch on my Jeep but I also have the front and rear Warn Bumper. These bumpers are made out of heavy duty steel that are meant to take the worst beating from the most rugged off road trails you can find. These bumpers made by Warn are built to last lifetimes and can be purchased for many makes and models of SUV's and Pickup Trucks!


There are many different scenarios where winches can be a life saver. You could be traveling down the road and come across someone who has somehow seemed to navigate there vehicle into a ditch because of a snow or black ice. Having a winch allows you to come to the rescue and be the good samaritan for the day rescuing your neighbor or even your own vehicle. I personally have been stuck multiple times where my Warn winch saved me from having to spend the night camping out in a mud hole. I have pulled out trucks much bigger than my Jeep! I have had to rescue my 1500 Chevy Silverado Z-71 a handful of times where my 1500 chevy was buried in mud up to the bottom of its' doors.


There are many cheap winches on the market but Warn is the best brand winch you can buy in my opinion. I have winched out friends, relatives, strangers, and even myself pushing the limit of maximum weight allowed with my Warn winches. My Warn Winches have never burned up. Burning up a winch happens when you put over the maximum load on the winch causing the motor to fry and become useless. I have quite a few friends who bought other brands besides Warn and burnt up their motors. When you burn up a motor on a Winch it is a big deal. You can spend more money on tearing apart the winch and replacing the motor than you originally paid for the Winch.
